Negotiations between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have hit a pause amid concerns over what party insiders describe as “stringent conditions” set by the NNPP leader. Sources say the APC has suspended further talks and shifted the final decision to President Bola Tinubu, who is currently outside the country.
The stalemate has also stalled plans to formally receive Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, into the APC, with his proposed defection postponed twice this month. Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has maintained that he is open to returning to the APC but wants firm assurances on the future of the Kano government, the safety of his political structure, and the fate of his supporters.
APC insiders say the prolonged hesitation has created internal uncertainty, prompting the party leadership to await Tinubu’s directive before making any further move on the sensitive Kano realignment.
