APC Draws Line: No Automatic Tickets for Defecting Governors

The All Progressives Congress has ruled out automatic tickets for governors who recently defected to the ruling party, insisting that party rules and internal democracy must prevail ahead of the 2027 elections.

Top APC officials said defection does not confer special privileges, stressing that all aspirants must earn their tickets through established party processes. Governors affected include Rivers State’s Siminalayi Fubara, Akwa Ibom’s Umo Eno, Taraba’s Agbu Kefas, and Kano’s Abba Kabir Yusuf, whose defection is widely anticipated.

A member of the APC National Working Committee said even President Bola Tinubu would not receive an automatic ticket if he seeks re-election, noting that the party remains open to all qualified members.

APC leaders maintained that while consensus may be adopted where necessary, it must follow democratic procedures. The party said governors and other defectors must compete fairly, just like long-standing members, to secure nominations for the 2027 polls.
