The All Progressives Congress (APC) has ruled out automatic tickets for governors who recently defected from other parties, including Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, whose defection is anticipated.
A senior APC National Working Committee (NWC) member told The Punch that party rules do not guarantee automatic tickets for defectors, emphasizing that all aspirants must compete fairly within the party. APC’s Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy and equal opportunity for all members.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, and NNPP’s Oladipo Johnson described the move as expected, adding that defecting governors acted against their constituents’ best interests. Observers note that while the APC continues to attract high-profile politicians from rival parties, these leaders must still secure party endorsement through the normal electoral process.
