Ekiti APC Warns Members Against Attacking Governor Oyebanji
The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned its members against launching media attacks on Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
The warning followed allegations that some party members were among those recruited to smear the governor online.
In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Yinka Oyebode, disclosed that over 150 people, including notable national-level influencers, had allegedly been paid to begin coordinated social media attacks against Oyebanji next week.
Oyebode said the plan, uncovered by the government, involved discrediting the governor and other key APC figures through “spurious and malicious allegations, including forged documents and AI-generated graphics.”
He alleged that the same individuals had recently sponsored online attacks against President Bola Tinubu, citing the condition of the Itawure–Aramoko–Igede federal road in the state as a pretext.
“These characters went back to the drawing board and came up with another action plan, which includes inducing 150 social media attackers with huge sums of money (in foreign currency) to carry out the nefarious act of character assassination and cheap blackmail,” Oyebode said.
He stressed that the government would treat the matter with utmost seriousness and warned that anyone found culpable would face consequences.
According to him, exposing the plot was necessary to prevent tension, a breach of peace, and recourse to self-help in the state.
