Speculation over Anthony Joshua retirement has intensified after his promoter, Eddie Hearn, urged the public to give the former world heavyweight champion time and privacy following a fatal car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close friends.

Speaking on talkSPORT Boxing, Hearn declined to discuss Joshua’s boxing future, stressing that recovery and emotional healing are the priority. His remarks have strengthened Eddie Hearn hint that the boxer may be stepping away from the ring.

Adding weight to the claims, Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, confirmed that the two-time champion had informed the family of his decision to retire, saying the move brought relief after years of emotional strain during his fights.

The tragedy occurred on December 29 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Joshua later paid tribute to the victims in an emotional social media post. While no official statement has been released, indications from his camp suggest a major career decision may already have been taken.
