Anambra Govt Denies ₦38m Contract Scandal Linked to Gov Soludo’s Wife

The Anambra State Government has dismissed reports alleging that the governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, was involved in a ₦38 million contract scandal at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam.

In a statement issued in Awka, the governor’s media aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, described the allegations as false, baseless, and politically motivated.

The government clarified that Anambra State does not operate an official Office of the First Lady and has never appointed aides to act in that capacity.

It stressed that Mrs. Soludo has no role in government contract processes and has no connection to the ₦38 million project referenced in the reports.

The statement further explained that the awarding of honorary degrees at COOU rests with the Senate and Governing Council of the institution, not the Vice Chancellor acting independently.

According to the government, the allegations form part of a wider plot to smear the governor’s family ahead of upcoming political contests.

Officials described Mrs. Soludo as a woman of integrity, urging citizens to disregard what they termed a “manufactured scandal.”

The government reaffirmed that the First Lady remains focused on her humanitarian work, particularly in areas of health and women’s empowerment initiatives across Anambra State.
