The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has demonstrated a notable improvement in result management, uploading a significant 90% of the polling unit results from the Anambra State governorship election to its official Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
As of 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, a real-time check by Naija News revealed that 5,203 out of the expected 5,720 polling unit results were already live on the portal. This rapid upload, completed barely four hours after voting ended, marks a positive step in electoral transparency for the commission.
The election, which commenced around 8:30 a.m. across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas, was largely peaceful but witnessed a noticeably low voter turnout. However, the exercise was heavily marred by widespread reports and allegations of vote-buying, with observers and candidates alike lamenting the monetization of the process.
With 16 political parties in the race, political pundits have narrowed the leading contenders to four candidates: the incumbent Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), George Moghalu of the Labour Party, and John Chuma-Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). All eyes are now on the collation centres as the final results trickle in.
