The Anambra governorship race is heating up as the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, Paul Chukwuma, has fired back at Governor Chukwuma Soludo, accusing him of focusing on gossip instead of governance.
Naija News reports that the war of words began when Governor Soludo, during a visit to Umueri community over the weekend, dismissed Chukwuma’s candidacy, describing him as merely seeking popularity and not genuinely in the race. Soludo claimed that Chukwuma’s interest in the governorship seat began after admiring the office during a visit.
In a sharp rebuttal issued on Monday, Chukwuma urged the governor to “join market women” if his focus as a leader was trading insults.
“If Soludo enjoys trading insults, he should go to the market where women sell pepper and ogiri to perfect the act,” Chukwuma declared.
Beyond the verbal exchange, Chukwuma took aim at Soludo’s performance, particularly in the power sector. He accused the governor of neglecting the opportunity to provide steady electricity, despite the fact that power has moved from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent list.
Chukwuma promised to deliver reliable electricity supply within three months if elected, citing his visits to Prof. Bart Nnaji’s Geometric Power plant in Aba and similar models in China as proof of his readiness.
“We are here in Anambra and do not have electricity power. Within three months I will give Anambra people steady power,” he vowed.
The clash underscores the growing tension ahead of the Anambra governorship election, as candidates trade words while voters weigh performance and promises.
