The Akwa Ibom State Government has strongly denied reports circulating online that Governor Umo Eno ordered the withdrawal of security details attached to his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, describing the claim as false, malicious, and politically motivated.
In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, the government said the story was a fabrication designed to stir unnecessary tension and disunity within the state’s political landscape.
Umanah dismissed the reports as “inflammatory concoctions” spread by individuals bent on creating a false narrative of division between Governor Eno and former Governor Emmanuel.
“I can tell you on good authority that the Governor did not issue any directive to withdraw security operatives from the immediate past Governor. The rumour exists only in the imagination of those peddling it,” Umanah stated.
Reports had earlier claimed that security personnel attached to Udom Emmanuel and some former state officials were withdrawn due to an alleged political disagreement over the 2027 elections, following Governor Eno’s purported defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, Ekerete Udoh, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, also refuted the story, stressing that it was a deliberate attempt to sow discord and mislead the public.
“There has been no official complaint or report from any former governor or their aides regarding security withdrawal. These allegations are completely baseless,” Udoh clarified.
The state government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, political stability, and respect for all past and present leaders in Akwa Ibom State.
“Governor Umo Eno remains focused on his developmental agenda and has no time for distractions or false political drama,” the statement added.
The government urged the public to disregard the rumours and rely only on verified information from official state channels.
