The family of late Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 Ondo State election, Bamidele Akingboye, has called on the Lagos State Police Command to clear the air over conflicting media reports concerning the autopsy conducted into his death.
According to the family, the police informed them during a meeting held on Friday, October 24, 2025, that both the autopsy result and investigation findings were still in police custody, pending the conclusion of inquiries.
However, a report published on Saturday, October 25, quoted Akingboye’s second wife, Mrs. Christianah Akingboye, as claiming she had access to the autopsy report, a claim the family described as disturbing and misleading.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Pastor Akinyele Akingboye appealed to the police to verify the authenticity of the claims and caution anyone making unsubstantiated statements.
“We want the Commissioner of Police to confirm whether the report is still in police custody and whether any third party has lawful access to it. Anything short of that undermines the investigation,” he said.
The deceased’s eldest son, Samuel Akingboye, reaffirmed the family’s trust in the ongoing probe, expressing confidence that the police would handle the case with transparency.
“As the police told us, the autopsy result is currently with them while they conclude their inquiries. We have been assured the investigation will be concluded soon, and we await the outcome,” he stated.
Also commenting, Mr. Oyeniyi Iwakun, Personal Assistant and Media Adviser to the late politician, said he was monitoring developments closely but would not make further public statements until the police released their official findings.
He recalled that he was in Okitipupa, Ondo State, when he first got news of Akingboye’s passing, later confirming that the incident occurred at the politician’s Victoria Garden City (VGC) residence in Lagos.
The family urged the Lagos State Police Command to expedite the investigation and make its findings public to dispel rising rumours and speculation surrounding the circumstances of the politician’s death.
