A fresh controversy has trailed the Presidency after viral images claiming to show President Bola Tinubu meeting Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Paris were flagged as artificial intelligence-generated. The images, widely shared on social media, carried a visible Grok watermark, a generative AI tool developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, raising doubts about their authenticity.
The meeting was first announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said both leaders held a private lunch to discuss global affairs and Africa’s development. President Tinubu also shared the image on his official X handle, describing talks on Africa’s place in a shifting global order.
However, the discovery of the AI watermark has intensified public scrutiny, as no official explanation has been offered on why an AI-generated image was used. The development has sparked debate over transparency and whether the Tinubu–Kagame Paris meeting actually took place.
