Morocco coach Walid Regragui has explained that collective effort and resilience were key to his side’s victory over Nigeria in the AFCON semi-final on Wednesday night.
The tense encounter ended goalless after 120 minutes at Rabat, before the Atlas Lions edged the Super Eagles 4-2 on penalties. Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi missed from the spot, sealing Morocco’s place in the final.
Speaking after the match, Regragui said his players made a “huge effort” and benefited from strong unity between the team and home supporters. He described reaching the final on home soil as a special moment, noting the physical demands of extra time.
The Moroccan coach also praised Nigeria and head coach Eric Chelle for their performance, stressing that both teams fought hard. He added that quick recovery would be crucial as Morocco prepare for the final showdown.
