AES Detains Nigerian Soldiers After NAF C-130 Emergency Landing in Burkina Faso

At least 11 Nigerian soldiers have been detained by Burkina Faso’s military authorities after a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft made an emergency landing in Bobo-Dioulasso. According to a statement released by the Alliance for Sahel States (AES) and shared by security analyst Brant Grant, the aircraft allegedly violated Burkinabè airspace before the forced landing.

Newsflash - For the record time; Burkina Faso Military have detained 11 Nigerian Army soldiers who invaded Benin Republic yesterday. I hope this doesn't escalate into what the Nigerian Government can't afford |

AES described the incident as a serious breach, stressing that any unauthorised aircraft entering its territory would be neutralised going forward.

The development comes barely 24 hours after Nigeria deployed military aircraft to Benin Republic to support efforts following an attempted coup. The situation has further heightened regional tension, especially between Nigeria and the AES bloc, which has repeatedly accused neighbouring nations of interference in its affairs.
