Renowned Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has issued a legal notice to Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital, Lagos, over the death of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu Nnamdi. The notice alleges medical negligence and professional lapses during multiple diagnostic procedures carried out on January 6, 2026.
The child was referred to Euracare ahead of a planned medical evacuation to the United States. According to the legal team, complications arose during post-MRI transfer under sedation, leading to his death in the early hours of January 7. The notice cites concerns over the use of propofol, lack of continuous monitoring, inadequate oxygen support, and failure to follow paediatric safety protocols.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered a probe into the incident amid rising public concern. Adichie’s solicitors demanded full medical records and preservation of all evidence, warning of legal action if compliance fails.
