ADC Slams Senate, Labels Electoral Act Changes APC’s Rigging Plan

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the APC-led 10th Senate over the rejection of key Electoral Act reforms, calling it a deliberate attempt to undermine Nigeria’s democracy.

In a statement by Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC faulted the Senate for blocking electronic transmission of results, rejecting e-download of voter cards, shortening election notice periods, and compressing timelines for candidate publication. These, the party argues, weaken INEC efficiency and increase opportunities for electoral malpractice.

The ADC described the move as evidence of APC’s fear of free and fair elections in 2027, accusing the ruling party of exploiting its legislative majority to manipulate electoral laws. The party urged the Conference Committee on the Electoral Act to overturn the Senate’s decisions and restore transparency, credibility, and public confidence in Nigeria’s elections.

According to ADC, Nigerians must hold the APC accountable for actions that erode democratic trust, warning that failing to act would allow continued legislative tampering and weaken the nation’s democratic foundation.
