ADC Slams FG Over Swift Benin Coup Response While Nigerians Face Insecurity

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a swipe at the Federal Government for its swift intervention in the attempted coup in the Republic of Benin, calling it a sharp contrast to the government’s slow and ineffective handling of insecurity within Nigeria. In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC commended the defence of constitutional order in Benin but questioned why such urgency is never applied when Nigerian citizens face deadly attacks daily.

The party reminded the FG that military deployment outside Nigeria requires National Assembly approval, warning that bypassing due process undermines democracy. It also cited Nigeria’s inconsistent response to the Guinea-Bissau crisis, suggesting possible foreign influence in selective interventions. The ADC insisted that democracy cannot be defended abroad while insecurity thrives at home, urging leaders to improve governance and allow opposition to flourish.
