The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has projected a wave of high-profile political defections in the first quarter of 2026 ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking on Arise Television, the party’s National Treasurer, Mani Ahmed, said the ADC is positioning itself as a strong alternative platform for key political actors.
Ahmed welcomed the defection of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other prominent Southeast leaders, describing their entry as a major boost for the party. He noted that the ADC is increasingly attractive to reform-minded politicians and young Nigerians seeking credible political participation.
According to him, youth inclusion remains central to the party’s strategy, with a clear commitment that 50 per cent of party positions will be occupied by individuals under 40. Ahmed stressed that the ADC recognises the electoral strength of young people and intends to fully harness their demographic influence ahead of 2027.
