The Accord Party has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and united in the face of current economic challenges, as the nation marks its 65th Independence Anniversary.
In a goodwill message signed by its National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, the party acknowledged Nigeria’s journey since independence on October 1, 1960, noting that despite decades of turbulent politics, military intervention, civil war, economic recession, socio-religious disharmony, and security challenges, citizens have continued to remain resilient and committed to democracy.
“Let us keep hope alive and continue to water and nurture the tree of democracy to maturity, to yield its abundant fruits and dividends to the people,” Mgbudem said.
The party urged Nigerians to remain in one accord, stressing that independence restored self-governance and should inspire collective determination to build a strong, just, and prosperous nation.
Accord further charged governments at all levels to prioritise security and welfare of citizens, citing Section 14(2)b of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which places security and welfare as the primary purpose of government.
On national security, the party called on the military to sustain the fight against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, militancy, and kidnapping, warning that only by securing the nation can future generations inherit a “banner without stain” as handed down by Nigeria’s founding fathers.
Accord also appealed to Nigerians to take part in the ongoing national voter registration exercise, emphasising that active civic participation is critical to deepening democracy.
“Your vote is your voice and power to elect credible leaders. The party is currently mobilising citizens nationwide for this crucial civic duty,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the party reaffirmed its readiness for the November 8, 2025 Anambra State governorship election, pledging to field credible candidates and strengthen democratic participation in the state.
