Traditional rulers in Abia State have expressed dissatisfaction with the state’s low figures in National Identification Number (NIN) and Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) registration, announcing a fresh mobilisation drive across communities. The Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Linus Nto Mbah, disclosed this on Monday during a council meeting in Umuahia.
The meeting was attended by principal officers and chairmen of traditional rulers from the 17 local government areas. The monarchs warned that Abia must not continue to trail behind other states despite its large population.
Eze Mbah said traditional rulers have resolved to take direct responsibility for mobilising eligible residents, especially those aged 18 and above who are yet to register. He stressed that the exercise is solely for the development and collective interest of Abia State.
According to the council, the mobilisation will move from the state level to zones, local governments, and autonomous communities. Plans are also underway to assess registration centres for adequate equipment, personnel, and logistics.
