Abia Government Denies Viral Report Claiming Alex Otti Said “Lagos Will Look Like a Village”

The Abia State Government has strongly debunked a report trending on social media, which falsely quoted Governor Alex Otti as saying he would make Lagos “look like a village.”

The controversial report, titled “Governor Otti fires back over demolition of Igbo businesses”, also claimed the governor said: “I have no business with Lagos, I am not competing with Lagos. My competition is China and Dubai. By the time I’m done with Abia, Lagos will look like a village.”

Government Reacts to Fake News

In a swift response, Otti’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, described the publication as false, baseless, and unfounded propaganda. He accused “angry and frustrated politicians” of fabricating the story to cause disaffection between Governor Otti and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos.

Ekeoma noted that Otti detests “childish showmanship” and could not have made a statement that reeks of arrogance, thoughtlessness, and divisiveness.

Politically Motivated Propaganda

The media aide alleged that the same desperate politicians behind the fake news were those who wrote petitions and inciting articles immediately after learning that President Bola Tinubu would be commissioning projects in Abia State.

According to him, the false report was deliberately designed to mislead the public and tarnish the image of Governor Otti.

Strong Relationship With Lagos Governor

Ekeoma further emphasized the long-standing bond between Governor Otti and Governor Sanwo-Olu, stating that the Abia governor enjoys a relationship with his Lagos counterpart that “has become an unbreakable bond.”

He stressed that Otti could easily communicate directly with Sanwo-Olu on any issue, even off camera, and therefore would never engage in reckless public comments against Lagos or its people.

The Abia Government therefore urged the public to disregard the report and treat it as politically motivated fake news.
