Delta State Government Cracks Down on Age Cheats in Civil Service Overhaul

The Delta State Government has issued a stern warning to civil servants found to have falsified their age or abandoned their duty posts, stating that they will be dismissed from service and required to repay illegally earned salaries. This announcement was made by Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, during a press briefing in Asaba, where he provided updates on the ongoing civil service screening exercise.

Aniagwu emphasized that this initiative is part of the state’s commitment to restoring discipline and accountability within the public service. He stated, “Those who cheated the system will be shown the way out, and whatever money they collected illegally will be recovered.”

Additionally, the commissioner addressed other governance issues, confirming that a recent government delegation to Brazil aimed to secure investments in agriculture, ranching, renewable energy, and industrial development. “Our goal is to create jobs, enhance security, and improve the standard of living of our people,” he noted.

Regarding the civil service dress code, Aniagwu clarified that the directive was merely a reminder of existing rules, asserting that “the civil service is a regimented institution. Government only insists on decency and professionalism in dressing while on duty.”

He also dismissed rumors of disputes among members of the state executive council, labeling them as baseless and politically motivated distractions. “No commissioner has engaged in any form of fight. Such reports are fabrications by detractors who cannot fault the administration’s performance,” he stated.

Aniagwu reaffirmed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration remains focused on development and the welfare of citizens. “This government is people-focused and result-driven. We will not be distracted by misinformation. Our priority is to keep improving the lives of Deltans while positioning the state as a hub for economic growth and sustainable investment,” he added.
