World record holder and defending champion Tobi Amusan has once again showcased her athletic prowess by winning her semifinal heat in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Amusan clocked an impressive time of 12.36 seconds (-0.2), securing first place ahead of Nadine Visser of the Netherlands, who finished with a time of 12.45 seconds, and Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska at 12.51 seconds. This performance further solidifies her reputation as one of the fiercest competitors in the hurdles as she prepares for the highly anticipated final.

However, Amusan’s remarkable achievement comes amid controversy within Nigerian athletics. Just days before her race, she took to Snapchat to criticize the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for what she described as inadequate and disrespectful treatment of athletes representing the country.

In her posts, Amusan revealed that athletes received poorly packaged kits in polybags, which included only one podium outfit, two undersized track kits, and no proper footwear or dinner gear. In stark contrast, she noted that Jamaican athletes were provided with well-arranged and complete kits.

Despite the ongoing controversy, Tobi Amusan remains focused on her performance on the track. With the final approaching, the 27-year-old superstar is one of Nigeria’s brightest hopes for gold on the world stage.
