NDLEA Arrests Widow with Cocaine Disguised as Pregnancy, Seizes Over 75,000kg of Drugs Nationwide

…Seizes Over 75,000kg of Drugs Nationwide

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old widow and fashion designer, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for attempting to traffic 1.3kg of cocaine concealed to appear as a pregnancy. She was apprehended on Friday, August 22, 2025, at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba, Lagos, while on her way to deliver the drugs to clients in Abuja.

A subsequent raid on her residence in the Ago Palace area of Lagos led to the recovery of 200 grams of a cutting agent used in cocaine processing. Ezewuike, owner of Golden Star Creation fashion house, reportedly admitted inheriting the trade from her late husband, though she had worked as a designer for over 20 years.

In another operation, NDLEA operatives intercepted 90 parcels of loud (a potent cannabis strain) weighing 48.6kg, concealed in three cartons of kitchen sinks imported from the U.S. The consignment was seized on August 19 at a Lagos courier company by the agency’s Directorate of Operation and General Investigation (DOGI).

Nationwide, NDLEA reported major seizures and drug farm destructions across multiple states:

  • Adamawa: Agents raided the home of wanted dealer Idris Garba, who escaped, but arrested an associate, Boniface Nnaji, 55. They seized two vehicles and 354,480 pills of tramadol.

  • Kano: Five suspects were arrested with more than 450,000 opioid pills, including pregabalin, tramadol, and 140 litres of codeine syrup.

  • Kogi: At Idah waterside, agents intercepted 5,000 capsules of tramadol, 400 ampoules of pentazocine, and 200 of diazepam from a trafficker arriving from Anambra.

  • Zaria-Kano Road: Adamu Yusuf, 29, was arrested with 7,000 capsules of tramadol.

  • Kwara: Over 2,289.49kg of skunk was seized in Ajase-Ipo in three operations involving three trucks and five suspects.

  • Abuja: Two dispatch riders were caught delivering drugs in Jabi—one with pentazocine injections and the other with skunk.

  • Delta: With military support, NDLEA destroyed 25,500kg of skunk on four plantations in Ndokwa West LGA.

  • Ondo: Another 25,025kg of skunk was destroyed across three farms in Uso.

  • Edo: Operatives arrested 54-year-old Fodo Stella Sunday with 901kg of skunk in a warehouse, while 14,233.37kg was destroyed on plantations in Owan West LGA.

  • Ekiti: 96kg of skunk was seized from two suspects in Ikere-Ekiti.

  • Taraba: A joint operation with Civil Defence destroyed 7,500kg of skunk cultivated on three hectares in Bali LGA.

As part of its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative, NDLEA also intensified advocacy efforts. These included sensitisation lectures in Islamiyya schools in Katsina and Kano, as well as advocacy visits to Abia State Governor Alex Otti and HRH Andoma of Doma in Nasarawa State.

NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers nationwide for their professionalism and resilience, urging them to sustain the agency’s balanced strategy of law enforcement, public awareness, and preventive education.
