In a significant operation, the Adamawa State Police Command has rescued five children who were reportedly abducted from Borno State. This rescue comes just a month after the successful retrieval of 14 children taken to Anambra State.
The children, identified as Adamu Musa (16), Suleiman Idris (10), Suleiman Mohammed (11), Dauda Yahaya (11), and Mohammed Alhassan (11), were found wandering in Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. They had been unlawfully taken from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
According to a statement from police spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje, the rescue operation was initiated on September 13, 2025, when Area Commander Mubi, ACP Marcos Mancha, acted on credible information. He led his surveillance team to intercept the children in Mubi town.
Investigation revealed that the children were abducted by one Aliga Suleiman, a resident of Sabon Layi, Gwange, Maiduguri, who is currently at large. The police are actively working to apprehend the suspect and ensure justice.
Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, praised ACP Mancha and his team for their swift action and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case. The department is tasked with arresting the suspect and facilitating the reunification of the victims with their families.
This incident underscores the ongoing issue of child abduction in northern Nigeria, particularly in Borno and Adamawa states. These regions remain vulnerable due to insurgency, displacement, and human trafficking.
In August 2025, the Adamawa Police Command rescued 14 children who were being trafficked to Anambra. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has also reported numerous cases of minors being trafficked across state borders for exploitation.
Adamawa State, sharing a border with Borno, has become a frequent transit point for traffickers, prompting police and security agencies to intensify surveillance in border towns like Mubi to combat this growing menace.
