Governor Aiyedatiwa Launches Investigation into Fake Teacher Appointment Letters

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has initiated an investigation into allegations of counterfeit appointment letters issued to applicants seeking teaching positions in Ondo State.

On Friday, a group of aggrieved applicants protested outside the Governor’s Office in Akure, urging the governor to look into the purported fake appointment letters they received from state officials.

The state government recently began recruiting 2,000 teachers for primary and secondary schools across all 18 local government areas. However, the protesters claimed they were barred from completing their recruitment process after being issued fraudulent appointment letters by certain government officials.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, it was confirmed that the governor has ordered the concerned applicants to be invited as part of the investigation.

The statement also revealed that disciplinary actions have been taken against three officials allegedly involved in the scandal. “The attention of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been drawn to reports of a protest by individuals claiming to have been denied employment during the recent recruitment of teachers by the Ondo State Government through the State Universal Basic Education Board,” Adeniyan stated.

He clarified that those who protested were not actual teachers but applicants who were defrauded by scammers who issued fake employment letters after collecting money from them. These applicants were identified during a biometric verification process and informed that their letters were not legitimate. Disciplinary measures have already been enacted against three insiders from SUBEB who reportedly colluded with external parties to defraud the applicants.

Adeniyan further noted that over 2,000 teachers who were legitimately employed by the government have already begun their duties. “Mr. Governor has directed the management of SUBEB to invite the victims of the fraud for a meeting, while a committee has been set up to further investigate the matter,” he added.
