The Oyo State Government has approved N17.1 billion for the dualisation of Ajia Road in Ibadan, in a major move to strengthen transport infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion in the state capital.
State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. Mojeed Mogbonjubola, disclosed the approval on Tuesday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting.
According to Mogbonjubola, the project will begin at Ajia junction on the Ibadan-Ife Expressway and terminate at the Nigeria Air Force Base in Ajia, with the contractor given a 12-month deadline for delivery.
“These road projects are critical for improving traffic movement and reducing travel time for residents and commuters,” he said, assuring that the state is committed to timely completion without compromising quality.
In addition to the Ajia project, the SEC also approved N26.4 billion for the 30-kilometre reconstruction of the Okaka-Otu Igbojaye road project.
Mogbonjubola revealed that N1.9 billion has also been allocated for the completion of the final two kilometres of the 20-kilometre Apete-Awotan concrete road, which includes a spur leading to the Akufo Farm settlement. He explained that while 18 kilometres had already been completed, the government is prioritizing the final stretch to ensure full connectivity.
On the Ojoo-IITA-Akinyele interchange project, the commissioner disclosed that the 13.6-kilometre dualisation will take 18 months, stressing its importance for supporting the rail transport corridor at Moniya and stimulating economic activities in the axis.
These approvals mark one of the most ambitious infrastructure investments in Oyo State in recent years, with Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration continuing to channel billions into road projects aimed at boosting trade, connectivity, and urban development.
