The Minister of State for Education, Olatunji Alausa, has reassured Nigerians that the era of endless strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is over.
Speaking at the Gender Inclusion Summit in Abuja, Alausa stressed that the Federal Government will not allow ASUU strikes to disrupt academic activities, pledging continuous engagement with the union “with mutual respect.”
He said, “ASUU will not go on strike; we will keep our children in school. This is a responsible government, and we will ensure stability in the education sector.”
The minister also announced major reforms in Nigeria’s examination system, revealing that both WAEC and NECO are transitioning to full computer-based testing (CBT) by 2026.
Starting November, WAEC will adopt CBT for objective papers, while essay sections remain paper-based. By 2026, all exam components, including essays, will be fully digital.
Alausa emphasized that the shift to CBT will curb malpractice, encourage genuine study, and significantly improve education standards.
