Chelsea Must Bench Garnacho Against Arsenal – Burley Warns Rosenior

Former Chelsea star Craig Burley has urged manager Liam Rosenior not to start Alejandro Garnacho in the upcoming Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Arsenal.

Chelsea showed resilience against West Ham on Saturday, coming from 2-0 down at halftime to win with Enzo Fernandez’s stoppage-time goal. Burley highlighted that Garnacho’s first-half struggles exposed defensive weaknesses, particularly against Aaron Wan-Bissaka, contributing to Chelsea conceding two early goals.

While Garnacho scored twice in the first leg, Burley insists he is most effective as a super-sub, coming on in the 75th–80th minute when space opens up. Chelsea’s impressive turnaround under Rosenior, who has won six of seven games, was credited to tactical substitutions rather than starting Garnacho.

Burley concluded that Rosenior now has enough evidence to bench Garnacho for the Arsenal clash, emphasizing defensive stability and tactical awareness as key priorities for the Blues in a high-stakes semi-final.
