Akwa United have been urged by the Akwa Ibom State government to focus on returning to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after their relegation to the Nigeria National League (NNL) last season.
During a visit to the team’s training in Uyo, Sports Commissioner Elder Paul Bassey called on the players to approach the second round with discipline, commitment, and professionalism. He emphasized that the second half of the league would be more demanding and no room for complacency.
Currently topping Conference B with 19 points from nine matches, Akwa United will face Rovers FC in their first fixture of the second stanza on February 14, 2026. Bassey’s encouragement highlights the state government’s support for the team’s mission to secure promotion back to the NPFL.
With the team’s morale high and government backing, fans are optimistic that Akwa United can achieve their promotion goals this season.
