CAF Slaps Heavy Sanctions on Senegal, Morocco Over AFCON 2025 Chaos

The 2025 AFCON final in Rabat has left a bitter aftermath as CAF issues fines and suspensions against Senegal, Morocco, and key officials. Senegal, champions after extra-time, were fined $615,000, with coach Pape Thiaw suspended for five matches and fined $100,000. Players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr also received suspensions.

Morocco was fined $315,000 for stadium misconduct, laser use, and interference in the VAR review. Defender Achraf Hakimi got a two-match suspension, while midfielder Ismaël Saibari faces three matches and a $100,000 fine. CAF rejected Morocco’s protest, confirming Senegal as rightful champions.

The final, marred by offside controversies, VAR debates, and Senegal walking off in protest, drew condemnation from CAF and FIFA President Gianni Infantino. CAF’s ruling emphasizes fair play, integrity, and accountability in African football, sending a strong message to federations and players alike.
