VIP Security Shake-Up: NSCDC Moves to Hire 30,000 More Operatives

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sought presidential approval to recruit 30,000 additional personnel to address rising demand for VIP protection across the country.

The request followed a high-level meeting involving President Bola Tinubu, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and NSCDC Commandant-General Ahmed Audi. Sources disclosed that the proposed recruitment is separate from the ongoing 30,000-man intake across other paramilitary agencies.

Insiders revealed that the withdrawal of police officers from VIP escort duties created serious manpower gaps, forcing the NSCDC to stretch its limited workforce nationwide. Senior officers said the President was briefed on the situation and assured the corps that the request would receive favourable consideration.

The development comes after the recall of 11,566 police officers attached to VIPs, a move aimed at strengthening frontline policing against kidnapping and violent crime. Consequently, VIPs requiring armed protection are now expected to rely on the NSCDC.
