The federal government announced on Friday that electricity supply across Nigeria is gradually stabilising after repairs to the vandalised Lagos–Escravos gas pipeline. The Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) restored gas to key thermal plants, boosting generation capacity nationwide.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed that affected plants have started controlled power offtake to prevent stress on the grid while other thermal stations remain on standby. This marks a major step toward reliable electricity for households, industries, and businesses, with further improvements expected as more plants come online.
NISO CEO Bello Mohammed hailed 2025 as a foundation year for the agency, noting achievements such as enhanced grid stability, digital visibility, and real-time synchronisation with the West African Power Pool. He assured stakeholders that 2026 will focus on consolidating gains and sustaining a resilient national power system.
