The United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has welcomed the release of Christian farmer, Sunday Jackson, who was previously sentenced to death by an Adamawa State High Court for killing a herder in what was ruled as self-defence.
Jackson’s case had drawn international attention after it emerged that he acted while defending his home during an attack. Congressman Moore, who has consistently raised the matter during US Congressional hearings on Nigeria’s security situation, described the pardon as a positive step.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri announced Jackson’s pardon last Sunday as part of the state’s Christmas and New Year clemency. Reacting, Moore said he was encouraged by Nigeria’s recent actions, noting that both his concerns and those of former US President Donald Trump were being taken seriously.
He commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for engaging with the US on security issues and urged Nigerian authorities at all levels to ensure Jackson’s safety going forward.
