MACBAN Demands Probe Into Killing of Herder in Benue

The Benue State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called on the government to urgently investigate the alleged killing of a herder in Otukpo Local Government Area.
State chairman, Alh. Risku Mohammed, told journalists in Makurdi that the incident has created serious tension, claiming that over 15 cows were also slaughtered by youths from Otukpo-Nobi and Ondo-Ogobia communities.

According to him, the herder, identified as Alh. Hassan Sule, was attacked and killed on Friday while returning from assessing damages from an earlier raid on his settlement. Mohammed alleged that a suspect earlier detained by the police was later released, raising concerns about justice and accountability.

Otukpo LGA Chairman, Hon. Maxwell Ogiri, confirmed the unrest but denied knowledge of cattle killings. The Benue Police Command said it is yet to receive the report.
