Former Super Eagles midfielder Sunday Oliseh has openly praised head coach Eric Chelle despite Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Super Eagles suffered a 4-3 penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo in the African playoffs, marking Chelle’s first loss as coach.
While criticism has trailed the team’s exit, Oliseh said on his podcast that Chelle has exceeded expectations, admitting he initially doubted his appointment but is now impressed by his impact and improved performance compared to previous coaches.
Chelle is now focused on leading Nigeria to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in December.
