White House Locked Down After National Guard Officers Shot Near Washington Seat of Power

The White House in Washington, D.C. was briefly placed on lockdown on Wednesday after gunfire erupted close to the U.S. presidential residence, leaving at least one or two National Guard personnel injured. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the development, noting that the officers were shot near the area and that federal authorities were working with local police.

The Washington Metropolitan Police Department reported that the incident occurred one block from the White House, around the busy Farragut Square and Farragut Metro station. The shooting coincided with ongoing public debate over President Donald Trump’s recent troop deployment order in the capital.

White House officials stated that President Trump had been briefed, while police secured the area and urged residents to avoid the scene. Conflicting reports continue regarding the exact number of victims.
