The Chairman of the Yobe State House of Assembly Committee on Health, Kachalla Ajiya Maina, has voiced deep concern over increasing reports of unprofessional conduct by some health workers in public health facilities across the state. Speaking during the 2026 budget defence for the Ministry of Health, Maina described complaints of neglect, harassment, and misconduct—especially at the State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu—as troubling and unacceptable.
He urged the Hospital Management Board to thoroughly investigate all cases and ensure appropriate disciplinary actions are taken. Responding, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Abubakar Yerima, assured lawmakers that the issue will be addressed decisively. He emphasized that unethical behaviour contradicts medical standards and vowed that the board will no longer permit undisciplined practitioners to operate in any state-owned facility.
