President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his warm congratulations to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State following his decisive re-election victory in Saturday’s gubernatorial poll.
In a statement personally signed by the President on Sunday, he praised Governor Soludo’s overwhelming win, which saw him poll 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 99,445 votes. This victory marks Governor Soludo as only the third governor in the state’s history to secure a second term.
President Tinubu commended the election process, stating, “I must also congratulate the people of Anambra State, the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the peaceful and successful conduct of the governorship election.”
He described Professor Soludo’s re-election as a clear endorsement of his leadership, noting, “Professor Soludo’s re-election is a testament to his visionary leadership and the significant progress the state has made under his guidance.”
The President highlighted his official visit to Anambra in May, recalling, “I inaugurated some projects executed by the Soludo administration. I highlighted the good thinking behind the landmark projects… That experience is indeed remarkable and will remain indelible in my mind.”
He further applauded the Governor’s unique approach to governance, saying, “Governor Soludo, the Solution, has demonstrated that indeed knowledge is power… He is bringing discipline, grace, brilliance, and a fresh perspective to governance in Anambra. Under him, Anambra is living up to its motto as the Light of the Nation.”
President Tinubu urged Governor Soludo to be magnanimous in victory and seek cooperation from his opponents. He also assured the Governor of his unwavering support and looked forward to continued collaboration between the state and the federal government.
In a nod to the electoral body, the President thanked the new INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, and his team for conducting what he said observers described as a credible election, charging the commission to maintain and improve upon this standard.
