Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, has once again paid a heartfelt tribute to Chelsea icon Didier Drogba, affirming that the Ivorian legend was instrumental in shaping his career and playing identity.
The Nigerian forward made these revelations following his stellar performance in Galatasaray’s 3-0 triumph over Ajax in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night. In an interview with UEFA’s official website, Osimhen expressed profound gratitude for his childhood idol.
“I have to be grateful for [Didier Drogba] because for all I am now, I think I attribute some of my successes to him,” Osimhen stated. “He was the one that I actually picked to see the way he plays, to try to add some of his qualities that he does that make him one of the most sought-after strikers in world football during his playing time.”
Osimhen’s admiration for Drogba has long been evident, with the 26-year-old often being compared to the Chelsea great due to his formidable strength, intelligent movement, and voracious appetite for goals. By consciously studying Drogba’s style and mentality, Osimhen has honed a similar brand of powerful, effective forward play.
His recent form underscores this development; his brace against Ajax made him the first Galatasaray player ever to score in eight consecutive European matches, cementing his status as a key player for the Turkish giants.
