OnePipe Launches Automated Utility Bill Scheduling to Help Nigerians Simplify Monthly Payments

In a move to tackle Nigeria’s growing challenge of missed and delayed utility payments, fintech innovator OnePipe has rolled out an automated utility scheduling feature on its PaywithAccount platform. The new solution allows users to automatically schedule essential payments — such as electricity bills, airtime, and mobile data — directly from their bank accounts.

The launch comes amid findings from an EFInA survey revealing that nearly 50% of Nigerian adults missed at least one critical payment in the past year, often leading to service disconnections, late fees, or financial strain.

Speaking on the development, Akin Olunloye, Product Manager at PaywithAccount, explained that the feature was designed to ease consumer stress and ensure reliability:

“Managing monthly payments has become a major source of stress for many Nigerians. This scheduling feature is a direct response to the need for automation. Our goal is to help consumers streamline their payments reliably and consistently.”

Early users have praised the feature for its convenience and effectiveness. Chinyere, a Lagos-based lawyer, shared her experience:

“Missing electricity payments used to be a constant issue. Automating with PaywithAccount has eliminated that completely. I even receive instant notifications and receipts through WhatsApp.”

Similarly, Sodiq, a digital marketer, said:

“I make multiple payments monthly for personal and business use. With PaywithAccount automation, I never worry about disruptions, even when I’m busy or traveling.”

The platform currently supports major electricity distribution companies — Eko, Ikeja, Abuja, and Ibadan — as well as telecom operators like MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9Mobile. OnePipe also revealed plans to expand into categories such as insurance premiums and cooperative dues in the coming months.

With this innovation, OnePipe is reinforcing its mission to simplify how Nigerians manage their financial lives — combining security, automation, and user-centric design to promote financial convenience across households and businesses.
