The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has declared that Nigerians are now safer under Tinubu’s administration compared to previous governments.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Bwala argued that several security lapses such as frequent prison breaks and broad-daylight kidnappings have drastically reduced since Tinubu assumed office.
“Nigerians are superlatively safer today than they were before 2023. Back then, prison breaks were happening across Nigeria, even here in Abuja. Now, people can move freely and conduct their businesses,” Bwala said.
The presidential aide, however, admitted that there are still pockets of insecurity, but he maintained that Nigeria remains safer than countries like the United States, when comparing crime statistics.
Bwala further dismissed allegations by U.S. senators, led by Senator Ted Cruz, accusing the Nigerian government of committing genocide against Christians. He described the claims as false and politically motivated, stating that the report relied upon by the senators was written by a group linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
“This report was written by the Inter Liberty Civil Society and Rule of Law, based in Onitsha. It’s an agenda backed by IPOB, not reality. There’s no religious genocide happening in Nigeria,” Bwala asserted.
He concluded that insecurity in Nigeria is not religiously motivated, stressing that no faith group is being targeted, and that the genocide narrative only surfaced after Vice President Kashim Shettima’s address at the UN General Assembly in September.
