A certificate scandal involving the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has sparked a public feud with online platform Premium Times. The dispute erupted over claims that Nnaji did not graduate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in 1975, as he publicly stated.
On Channels Television’s Politics Today, Premium Times Editor-in-Chief Musikilu Mojeed said a whistleblower prompted the investigation, which began in 2023. The platform sought verification of Nnaji’s degree and NYSC certificates via a Freedom of Information request. Both UNN and the NYSC reportedly stated they could not authenticate the documents.
Representing the minister, Chukwunonye Okereke defended Nnaji, insisting he studied Biochemistry/Microbiology, completed all academic years, and graduated in good standing. Okereke alleged political motivations behind the claims, pointing to university affiliations with the PDP.
The controversy continues to fuel debate over political influence, transparency, and the credibility of public officials.
