Nigerian Stars Nominated for Premier League 2 Player of the Month Award

Three promising players of Nigerian descent have been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for September 2025. Arsenal’s Andre Harriman-Annous, Southampton’s Romeo Akachukwu, and Ipswich Town’s Tudor Mendel-Idowu are all in the running for this prestigious accolade.

Harriman-Annous had an outstanding month for Arsenal, scoring in a thrilling comeback victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers and contributing to the team’s success in the Vertu Trophy against Newport County. His performance off the bench was also crucial in the win over Derby County.

Meanwhile, Akachukwu has been a key player for Southampton’s U21s, showcasing his skills by scoring and assisting in the match against Burnley, followed by another assist in a dramatic 3-3 draw with Manchester City. His impressive form has helped Southampton maintain an unbeaten streak throughout September.

On the other hand, Mendel-Idowu, a former Chelsea academy player, played a vital role in Ipswich Town’s consecutive victories over Chelsea and Liverpool. He scored against his former club on September 20 and netted again in a 3-2 win against Liverpool a week later.

The three Nigerian talents face competition from Fulham’s Aaron Loupalo-Bi and Farhaan Ali-Wahid, Brighton’s Joe Belmont, and Tottenham Hotspur’s Luca Williams-Barnett and Rio Kyerematen.

The Premier League will announce the winner of the September 2025 PL2 Player of the Month award this Friday.
