Nasarawa United Earn Reward After Dramatic Win Over Bendel Insurance

Nasarawa United’s impressive form in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) continued over the weekend as they secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory against Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

Substitute Mohammed Garba emerged the hero of the match, scoring the decisive goal deep into stoppage time to hand the Lafia-based side their second away win of the campaign and extend their unbeaten run to six games.

In recognition of their remarkable performance, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, fulfilled his promise to the team by rewarding the players with ₦500,000. The club’s chairman and a dedicated supporter also joined in motivating the squad after their spirited display.

Head coach Mbwas Mangut expressed his excitement following the victory, which helped Nasarawa United maintain their lead at the top of the NPFL table with 16 points, four clear of their closest rivals.

“It’s a thing of joy to get maximum points, either home or away,” Mangut said. “After drawing their last home game, Bendel Insurance were all out, aggressively searching for the maximum points today.”

Meanwhile, in Minna, Niger Tornadoes have heaped praise on new midfielder Ani Chigozie, who has impressed since joining the club as a replacement for Ifeanyi Okechukwu.

In a statement, the club described Chigozie’s signing as an “absolute masterstroke,” crediting their scouting department for identifying the talented player.

“Ani Chigozie has proven to be a masterstroke for Niger Tornadoes. His acquisition was an absolute coup by the club’s scout,” the statement read.

Chigozie is expected to feature prominently as Niger Tornadoes take on Kun Khalifat FC on Sunday as the NPFL season continues to gather momentum.
