Independence Day: Gov Fintiri Grants Pardon to Six Inmates in Adamawa Stat

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has granted pardon to six inmates across correctional centres in the state as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, the governor said the gesture was in line with his constitutional prerogative of mercy and based on recommendations from the Adamawa State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

According to the statement, the inmates benefitted from the governor’s intervention after they demonstrated remarkable improvement in behaviour during their time in custody.

“In the exercise of my prerogative of mercy as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and in line with the recommendations of the Adamawa State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, I have granted pardon to six persons who have served various jail terms and have significantly demonstrated good conduct over the years,” Fintiri was quoted as saying.

The governor ordered their immediate release and directed relevant authorities to give effect to the decision without delay.

The pardoned inmates include:

  • Wamari Godwin
  • Abraham Marksunil
  • David Paul
  • Ibrahim Adamu
  • Usman Inuwa
  • Sani Yahaya

The development comes as part of Governor Fintiri’s broader commitment to justice reform and rehabilitation efforts within Adamawa State.
