Tinubu To Address Nigerians On October 1 As Nation Marks 65th Independence Anniversary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will deliver a nationwide broadcast on Wednesday, October 1, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration.

According to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the address will air live at 7 a.m. across television and radio stations. All broadcasters have been directed to connect with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for transmission.

What To Expect From Tinubu’s Independence Day Speech

Independence Day broadcasts traditionally serve as a platform for Nigerian leaders to reflect on the country’s challenges, celebrate milestones, and reassure citizens of their administration’s commitment to unity and development.

Tinubu’s upcoming address is expected to focus heavily on security, the economy, and infrastructure projects.

In his 2023 maiden Independence Day broadcast, the President spoke on subsidy removal, economic reforms, and efforts to tackle insecurity. He urged citizens to remain patient, insisting that sacrifices made under his policies would eventually yield long-term benefits.

This year, analysts predict the President may provide updates on:

  • Job creation and employment initiatives
  • ower supply and energy reforms
  • Inflation and economic recovery measures
  • Infrastructure development projects

Nigeria At 65: A Time For Reflection

Nigeria gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, and the day has since been commemorated with presidential speeches, parades, and civic activities.

The 65th anniversary offers yet another opportunity for citizens and leaders to reflect on the nation’s journey—its unity, struggles, and resilience—while looking ahead at the possibilities for growth and global influence.
