PENGASSAN Orders Nationwide Strike Over Alleged Sack Of 800 Nigerian Workers By Dangote Refinery

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has announced a nationwide withdrawal of services beginning Monday, September 29, 2025, in protest against the alleged dismissal of more than 800 Nigerian workers by the Dangote Refinery.

The directive was contained in a circular issued after an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

According to the union, the mass sacking of Nigerian staff by the refinery is “unjust, unacceptable, and a threat to industrial harmony.” PENGASSAN stated that such actions undermine local employment and contradict the government’s agenda of job creation and economic stability.

The association directed all its branches and members across oil and gas companies in Nigeria to fully comply with the industrial action until further notice.

This latest development raises concerns about fuel supply disruptions and the stability of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, as the Dangote Refinery remains a key player in the nation’s refining capacity.

More details are expected as negotiations between PENGASSAN, the Federal Government, and Dangote Refinery management unfold.
