Former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, and one Bashir Asabe will today return to the Federal High Court, Abuja, to continue their bid for bail over alleged ₦9 billion fraud charges.
The trio were arraigned on a 16-count money laundering charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and pleaded not guilty. Justice Emeka Nwite had adjourned proceedings to January 2 for the hearing of their written bail applications after rejecting an oral request.
Defence counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN), argued that the offences are bailable and not capital in nature. However, the EFCC insisted that bail considerations must comply with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA). The court is expected to rule after hearing arguments from both sides.
