Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has declared his commitment to ensuring President Bola Tinubu is voted out of office in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a political gathering, Tambuwal described the movement to unseat Tinubu as a “national consensus” rather than a northern agenda, stressing that it is driven by Nigerians across regional and political divides.
“I am fully involved in a process — democratically and lawfully — that will end, by the grace of God, in sending this government out of office,” Tambuwal said.
He dismissed claims that the opposition coalition was a northern ploy, pointing out that prominent southern leaders such as Peter Obi and Rauf Aregbesola are also part of the alliance.
Coalition Gathers Heavyweights
The coalition, unveiled months ago, includes ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra governor Peter Obi, ex-Senate President David Mark, former Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola, and ex-Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Together, they have pledged to build a united opposition front strong enough to defeat the ruling APC in 2027.
“Tinubu is Not Invincible”
Tambuwal accused Tinubu’s administration of failing to deliver the dividends of democracy, dismissing the narrative that the president cannot be defeated.
“It is not cast in stone that he may not lose in 2027. Every effort being made to make it as if he is invincible is rubbish. He can be defeated, and I am working with coalition leaders to do that,” Tambuwal said.
The former governor argued that the struggle is not about Tinubu personally but about the way Nigeria is being governed, stressing that the coalition’s mission is in the “interest of the country.”
Meanwhile, the ruling APC has scoffed at the plan, insisting Tinubu remains firmly in control ahead of 2027.
