2027 Shockwaves: Wike Warns Jonathan & PDP – ‘Bringing Him Back Will Destroy the Party!’

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stirred heated political debate after cautioning former President Goodluck Jonathan against contesting the 2027 presidential elections.

Recent speculations suggest that Jonathan may consider running again under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform. However, the former president has remained silent on the matter, fueling further rumors.

Speaking during a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike advised Jonathan to resist pressure from political actors urging him to return. According to Wike, these are the same individuals who betrayed Jonathan during the 2015 elections, which saw him lose power.

“I know Jonathan very well. He enjoys being respected internationally as a statesman and I believe he will continue in that role,” Wike stated.

“People pushing Jonathan, what strength do they have? Were they not the same people who worked against him in 2015? For Christ’s sake, nobody should create problems for the party. When you cause problems, you are the one to blame.”

Wike stressed that Jonathan should continue enjoying his global statesman role rather than risk his reputation by stepping back into the unpredictable waters of Nigeria’s presidential race.

The FCT Minister also issued a strong warning to the PDP regarding former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi. According to Wike, allowing Obi to return to the PDP and claim the 2027 presidential ticket would completely destroy the party.

He argued that it would be hypocritical for Obi to return to a party he once condemned as “rotten,” only because of his political ambition.

This latest development underscores the deep internal battles within the PDP as the 2027 elections approach, with key figures already maneuvering for influence and dominance.
